The Profitable Email List Funnel
An ugly as hell spec funnel I built to demonstrate how broad attention can be turned into subscribers, subscribers into buyers, and buyers into high-ticket prospects -- so you can do it too.
Collecting emails is cool - any dumb opt-in page can do that!
But to build a whole machine that takes someone from discovering your content to becoming a customer in as few steps as possible?
If something like that was possible, would you be interested?
Keep reading and you might just find out how.
First off, here's a visual(kinda) of what I was just talking about:
01 — ATTENTION
Content / Profile
↓
02 — CAPTURE
Lead Magnet
↓
03 — MONETIZE
Tripwire
↓
04 — EXPAND
Upsell
↓
05 — ASCEND
Book a damn call
The goal isn't just to collect a bunch of subscribers. But build a complete system that bags subscribers, and not just any subscriber...
Paying Subscribers!
“But how do you sell to them on the first encounter without coming off as salesy and annoying?”
Now, now little one. Need not hurry. All the answers lie right here on this page.
But first...
Here's a Breakdown on the Content Philosophy:
The First Encounter
It starts wherever someone happens to stumble across you.
Maybe they find you through a post on X.
Maybe Instagram...
Maybe Substack...
Maybe they click your profile because something you said made them curious enough to learn more about you.
Or maybe they're reading one of your posts and you happen to mention something directly related to the problem they need solved.
In other words - plenty of ways to get someone interested in ya, sonny.
Whether you're conscious of it or not.
The point is...
You don't need every piece of content to sell.
You just need it to create enough curiosity for the right person to take the next step.
And that next step is getting them to the opt-in page.
Because once they're on that page, the content's job is over.
Now the lead magnet page has to do the heavy lifting.
And that's where things get... funny.
Because this isn't just any lead magnet.
It's one that collect emails and creates profit - at the same time.
Congratulations! 🥂
We got a potential(imaginary) lead to your website.
But here’s where it gets interesting…
You think someone will just hand over their email address for some “stuff”?
Unless that someone is a meth-head and your "stuff" is white crystals.
It's Not Gonna Happen!
You need to promise a specific solution to their weird problems.
Something related to the services you provide.
Something that act as a segue for your product.
In this example here, I give away a framework of thinking.
A guide on how one can improve their Welcome Emails for better open-rates and higher profits.
This will only be interesting to those who want to increase their revenue generated via email.
And that helps me determine how I can sneak in some profits.

WHY THE LEAD MAGNET WAS BUILT THIS WAY
Point 1 — You're selling the problem, not the template.
The person doesn't necessarily know:
"I need a 7-email welcome sequence."
They know:
"My new subscribers aren't engaged."
That's a much more interesting problem.
Point 2 — You're giving them a mechanism.
You're not saying:
"Here are 17 emails. Copy these."
You're saying:
"Here are four recurring elements I found across successful welcome sequences."
That positions you as someone who studies patterns, not someone who pumps out templates.
Point 3 — The lead magnet naturally creates demand for the paid offer.
This is important.
The free guide teaches them:
What a profitable welcome sequence needs.
It doesn't necessarily build the entire thing for them.
So you've created a natural gap:
"Okay... now I understand what's wrong with my sequence. But actually implementing all this sounds like work."
There is now an unknown subtle desire that exists within our prospect.
“This sounds like a lot of work, is it possible to get all of this implemented without much effort?”
And that’s where our solution to their desire comes in…
The Tripwire
Making 'em trip on your wires!
So now they know.
They know what their welcome sequence is missing.
They know what the good ones do differently.
They even have a checklist to go fix it.
Which is great.
But there's one little problem...
Knowing what to change and actually changing it are two very different things.
Believe it or not, you can give away all of the information you have but it doesn’t really matter.
Implementation is a completely different animal.
9 times out of 10, they want to hire someone to do it for them(unless they're broke).
And who better(to pay) than the person they learned all this information from?
The devilish capitalist inside me has a light bulb moment.
I've just given someone a guide explaining how to make their welcome sequence more profitable...
So why would I send them back into the wilderness with a Google Doc and a "good luck"?
This is where I come up with an offer completely in-line with my lead magnet.
Making it the obvious next move for anyone looking to improve their welcome email without having to put in much work.
All they have to do is answer a few questions - plug in their current welcome email - and voila!
They will receive a new one in 24-48 hours.
Doesn’t get any better than this…
Keep in mind that the offer is as low-ticket as it gets.
A cold audience isn’t paying big bucks to a stranger they just found out about.
The barrier for entry should be as low as possible.
You want them to try your stuff and get results as soon as possible.
Wanna take a look at how this page looked like?
WHY THE TRIPWIRE IS LIKE THIS:
01 — It follows the problem
The lead magnet has just made the prospect aware of weaknesses in their welcome sequence.
The paid offer is therefore not some random product thrown at them.
It's the logical next step.
02 — The price reduces friction
You're deliberately keeping the first transaction relatively small.
You're not asking a stranger who just discovered you to hand over thousands of dollars.
You're asking for a much smaller commitment.
03 — It changes the relationship
Before:
Reader → Subscriber
After:
Subscriber → Customer
That's a huge psychological shift.
You've now acquired someone who has demonstrated that they're willing to spend money to solve this particular problem.
And THAT person is much more interesting to the rest of the funnel.
Upsell = I might be a greedy c*nt
I DON'T CAREEE!!!11
A successful upsell usually consists of one of two things:
MORE of what is already being bought.
Or a FASTER way of getting results/the transformation.
I went with option#2(because my dumb brain could only come up with that kind of upsell).
Is an upsell necessary?
It’s cool to just have one simple entry-level offer right after someone opts-in but if you add an upsell to the equation?
You get a HUGE bump in the AOV(average order value)!
Listen here boy, as a human who is aware that greed runs us all, let's agree we want to make a funnel as profitable as possible.
No point in letting free green stuff get away, is there?
So if you get offer economics…
You should know how adding an upsell with even a miniscule take rate could give you that push to create more content, or invest more in whatever the hell you’re doing.
Not going for an upsell is leaving money on the table. And we don’t do that here.
Look at the sample upsell page now:
(There are actually 3 more ways I'd increase the AOV here.
I'm not showing them on this page.
I'm leaving them out of this breakdown because the point isn't to give you a 47-page dissertation on funnel economics.
The point is to show you how I think.
Find the leak.
Find the opportunity.
Then squeeze more money out of the same traffic.)
Book-a-Call Ascension:
This page exists only because those who have landed on it have proven that they are serious about getting their problems solved.
Not everyone deserves to hop on a call with ya.
We might just be TOO COOL FOR CALLS!.
But nah, that’s not it.
Instead you want someone to be sold before they even get to talk to you.
I mean, do you really want to explain to someone WHY they need your services?
That's inefficient and ANNOYING.
Instead, we go this route.
If someone’s bought the LTO - that means they care about your "stuff".
If they care about your "stuff" - they care about what you have to say.
And if they care about what you have to say, they care about what you have to offer.
That’s how it goes, sonny.
Instead of explaining what you do and how you do it on call – wasting infinite time and energy.
You become a therapist.
An active listener.
A saviour in disguise.
And at the end provide the solution they came to you for.
This isn’t “salesy”.
It’s a natural culmination of the funnel and the next smart move.
Someone who spent around 30 bucks could end up being worth thousands!
A person who makes it so far into the funnel isn't cold traffic anymore…
Capitalize on that.
Want to see the sample book-a-call page that capitalizes on just this?
IN BLOODY SUMMARY:
There's no point in only knowing the copy. It's important to know how to take a funnel, grab it by the neck, and make it cough up the good ol' green stuff.
So there you have it, I’m not typing much here, the idea was to showcase a profitable subscriber funnel, not write the bloody constitution.
There's that.
Anyway...
If you need someone who knows copy, funnels, AOV, CTR, marketing, the fancy stuff. Hire me. If not. Have a nice one.
Good Goodbye.
Or...
